Alleged new Against Me! album artwork.

1. wtf
2. i bet it will still fucking suck and make me want to cry when i think about the fact that this band wrote my favourite song of all time (literally), along with some other songs that rank very high in that respect as well, because their new work is literally a fucking stab in the back to what their music meant to me when I was 16 and not only do i not listen to their new stuff but I fucking despise it.

okay i’m one of those assholes that only got into against me when new wave came out and of course i looked up their old stuff but tbh i’m all about melody and i like pop/pop-sounding music so i hated it even though i appreciate the lyrics and aesthetic- anyway, i keep hearing about “how they’ve changed” and aside from the sound of the music, i get the feeling they did something huge and traitorous but i have no idea what it is, since i probably only got into them after they did whatever “it” is and have read about two interviews max. so i’m not doubting that they’ve changed or have done anything terrible, i just don’t know what it is. what happened?

If you read the lyrics to the songs on Crime, the Acoustic EP, and even Reinventing Axl Rose, and any of the tapes or releases that came out before those, a good portion of the lyrics are about the basics of punk DIY ethos in music, oppression, resistance, revolutionary thought and action, and the song Reinventing Axl Rose is specifically about how bands and artists should work independently and reinforce the DIY aspect of punk scenes (you should read the lyrics to get a better idea).
In 2005 they signed to a major label. The music they produce these days (ever since they ditched their acoustic schtick in As the Eternal Cowboy [though that was released on Fat Wreck & I do enjoy a couple of tracks off that album I guess]) is totally watered-down and made more digestible for the mainstream listener, and the vast majority of the revolutionary politics and opinions that were expressed in their earlier stuff is totally gone.

It’s not the actual artwork, it was made by a fan as a joke.
